Hungry in Hungary
Budapest! I love this place! The weather is always warm, the people are friendly and just all round good, fun times happen in this place. Training has been going really well. The rest of the Aussie guys here have been keeping me honest in training also. There is no slacking off on any effort and having them here is great for keeping the pace the same! It is good to finally get some consistency back after months of ups and downs (injuries or just plain and simple, being away from my home training base). Bodyscience have hooked all of us boys up with plenty of nutrients and compression wear to help aid our recovery between sessions. I am definitely needing every bit of it! I am training in Csepel which is on the Little Danube River, approximately 15 minutes drive from the city centre and I’m staying on a boat. Literally a boat! It is 100m walk to where we train and is perfect for getting every last minute sleep-in before the morning training sessions.
Last weekend was World Cup 2 in Poznan (POL). I opted to withdraw myself from this competition to train straight through to World Cup 3 coming up in Szeged (HUN) in 2 weeks time. It was good to watch the results from the internet, and some fairly different results compared to World Cup 1. Something tells me that the next four years leading up to the London Olympics is definitely not going to get any easier, but only harder! Not only are the athletes getting better and faster, but so is the technology coming out of the Nelo factory! I picked up my new racing boat, which looks unbelievable, at World Cup 1. I think maybe one of the best designs yet from my little sister, but decided I didn’t want to race it just yet as I wanted to get a few kilometres under my belt in it; working out the trim of the boat and just simply, how to paddle the formula 1 of kayaks.
We leave for Szeged this weekend to get in a solid weeks worth of training on the course, and to also get used to what paddling 1000m and 500m feels like again. I will keep you updated on the progress!
Ken
