The European Summer is over! Onto Canada now for the last month leading into the World Championship held on the 13th to 16th August in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
The last week I spent in Hungary was still a very busy one in training and Jimmy thought to end off the European Summer Slaughter we should race in the Hungarian National Championships. Not everybody is allowed to compete so we are very grateful we given the chance. It is always a good feeling knowing that the hard training you have done is starting to pay off. The racing went well and I was able to win all the events I raced and in quite good times. To change things up a bit I also raced the K2 500m with Pistol (Jacob Clear) and the K4 1000m with the rest of the boys as well as the K1 1000m and the K1 5000m. We hadn’t paddled together before we raced except up to the start line so it was good to pull that off.
This week I have landed myself in Ottawa, Canada, to get in some training with good mates, Anders SWE and Adam VK-CAN. I’ll be training with them and the other Aussie guys for the last few weeks heading into Worlds. We have had a few sessions together already and I am not sure what is worse lining up to race these guys at Worlds or racing them in training on every effort! As much as it hurts I do love the rivalry and fun we have. It can only help us all get faster.
So far the weather here hasn’t been too bad. I have been told the weather in Halifax is not as warm as Ottawa so it might take a while to adjust. I hate trying to race in the cold, just takes all the fun out of it.
