Grand Prix - Penrith, Sydney

Quite a fair bit has happened since my last update. I am sorry I have been so lazy with updating. Xmas was great, I got myself a couple of presents, one being a house and all the extras to fill it and a bigger and faster jetski. To compliment these two I was able to snag myself a couple of new sponsors, Phiz TV and Think Ocean Ski’s. These two new sponsors have really enabled me to knuckle down and actually let me approach kayaking from a professional perspective. Part of one of these new sponsorships is the new car shown in the pic. (I had to test its four-wheel drive capabilities, nothing too crazy).

I have approached training this year slightly differently. Everything seems to be going well as I raced at the Oceania Championships on the weekend which was my first major regatta for the year. The weekend started off quite badly as I ate a dirty Kebab the night before but still managed to make it through my heats. I was happy and so were the fish I fed after the race. By Saturday I was feeling a little better and a little drained but still managed to win the 500m that day and even backed up to win the 1000m the following day. Both races I thought were quite good times considering the conditions and time of the year. However, there was weed everywhere which was nothing out of the ordinary at Penrith. It was a really good competition with a large contingent of New Zealand paddlers and as always Murray Stewart kept everyone honest. After the weekend there was an article in the paper headlining “Wobbly Wallace” I thought that was quite funny, the paper must be running out of headlines for kayaking.

Right now I am spending some good honest time on the couch watching the Winter Olympics on TV. It is inspirational to watch. No matter what the sport you know that athlete is at the top of their game, leaving nothing to spare and going as hard as they can!  If for some unknown reason I wasn’t unable to compete in kayaking I would love to take up a winter sport. Men’s Downhill or Moguls!
